With its current financial problems, our government should use the solution that each household faces daily: in order to maintain what little stability and lifestyle we have left, we have to cut back on all extras, including those little perks that make us feel better about ourselves. This means that we freeze our finances at their current level with no new taxes, projects or outside contributions of any kind, and halve any that are currently in existence.

Nationwide, this would mean that we halve all outside help, financially or otherwise and concentrate on domestic needs. We do not need 85,000 troops in peacetime Europe and we cannot continue to rush aid to other countries for every emergency while our own people are suffering and told to make further sacrifices. There are no other countries standing in line with offers to help with our problems and we cannot continue to be the world”s watchdog and savior when other governments do not realistically deal with their own problems.

By freezing current domestic spending and standards of living for our own people while halving all spending outside the United States, there would be a significant impact on the deficit. It would also impress on our own citizens that their representation in politics is doing what it was elected to do.
