This letter is in response to a comment in the Main St. Bicycles article in you March 1 edition, where the Cramers made an insinuation about the community lacking a bicycle shop in downtown Lakeport. True, to a point. The owners of the former downtown bicycle shop moved to South Main Street prior to selling the business in 2007. So what community was it in then?
Webster”s definition of community is a group of people living in a particular local area. If you don”t live in downtown Lakeport, which is predominantly a business district, what area do you live in? Doesn”t the 95453 still cover the Lakeport area, which is the community? Does the community of Kelseyville, Upper Lake or Middletown only pertain to downtown?
In an emergency you would probably hope that the real community shows up. False. From the time that the former bicycle shop opened in the Safeway shopping center, the community never lacked a full-service bicycle shop and to imply this is a put down to all of the former owners.
For the record, the former full-service bicycle shop that was located on South Main Street, which Mr. Cramer worked for previously in downtown Lakeport, existed under several owners and locations in the community for 25 years thanks to the many loyal customers from all of the communities in Lake County. Sadly, due to the state of the economy, the shop had to be closed at the end of October 2010.
