I am a high school student who attends Freedom Christian University home school support where the students are taught the benefits of abstinence before marriage. Recently, I was reading an article about free condoms being given out in California public high schools.
I have also discovered that condoms are freely given out in public high schools in Lake County.
I am going to cut straight to the point. Condoms, whether given out for free or sold, should not be handed out in schools, because this practice conveys the idea that sex amongst high school students is permissible. Instead of teaching the students that it is fine to have sex before marriage, why don”t they teach abstinence?
Abstinence is the key to emotional health and physical safety. Promiscuity leads to HIV, AIDS, STDs, and unwed pregnancies. Even when a condom is used, the risks are still present. Condoms often break. Furthermore, sex before marriage inevitably results in self-esteem issues that could otherwise be prevented.
There is no acceptable reason to have sex in high school or at any time before marriage. Condoms should not be given out in high schools.
