LOWER LAKE — El Molino took advantage of four Lower Lake errors in the top of the third inning to beat the Trojans 5-1 in a non-league varsity baseball game on Wednesday afternoon in Lower Lake.

Lower Lake (1-1) suited up the minimum nine players. The Trojans were without starting catcher Kyle Buckingham (flu) and pitcher Kevin O”Quinn (ankle).

“We had a lot of kids play out of position,” Lower Lake coach Joe Mattos said. “We played pretty well, but we had one bad inning.”

Losing pitcher Josh Benfante worked the first six innings, allowing all five El Molino runs on four hits, striking out three and walking one. Only two of the runs were earned. Devante Scott, who opened the game at shortstop, relieved in the seventh inning.

Benfante knocked in the only Lower Lake run.

Hitting statistics were not available.
