LAKEPORT — A judge Monday scheduled the jury trial for a Piercy man charged with gross vehicular manslaughter to begin in August.
Anton Timothy Kloiber, 35, faces felony charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence (DUI) causing bodily injury, and special allegations that the DUI caused great bodily injury or death and that both felony charges resulted in injury to a second person, for his alleged role in a Sept. 24 collision.
Authorities allege that on Sept. 24, Kloiber was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe westbound on Highway 20 when the vehicle traveled into the eastbound lane while going around a curve and struck a Nissan pickup head-on.

The Tahoe allegedly continued westbound out of control and collided with the left rear of a Ford F-150 truck that was traveling eastbound. The driver of the F-150 reported leg bruising and lower back pains as a result of the incident, according to the CHP.
Kloiber has pleaded not guilty to the felony charges and has denied both special allegations.
Judge J. Michael Byrne scheduled Kloiber”s trial to begin Aug. 1. Kloiber, who is not in custody, is next scheduled to appear at the Lake County Courthouse on July 18 at 3 p.m. for a trial readiness conference.
