CLEARLAKE — A vehicle pursuit early Sunday morning ended with the arrest Matthew Bronsert, 41, of Clearlake. According to Clearlake Police Sgt. T. Hobbs, the pursuit encompassed approximately 14 miles with speeds reaching more than 100 mph.

Hobbs said that at approximately 1:50 a.m. Officer T. Lenz attempted to conduct a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 53 and Lakeshore Drive on the 1986 Honda hatchback Bronsert was driving. He said the officer observed the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed near Lakeshore Drive near Old Highway 53.

“Bronsert failed to pull over and evaded Officer Lenz for approximately 14 miles, at times reaching speeds over 100 mph,” Hobbs said, adding that Bronsert drove to Clearlake Oaks then returned to the City of Clearlake via Sulphur Bank Drive. He said the suspect traveled through the Clearlake Park area, ultimately driving into a field on Eastlake Drive Extension. “Bronsert then rammed his vehicle into a marked Lake County Sheriff”s Office patrol vehicle, who had joined the pursuit at Country Club Drive and 16th Street in Clearlake.”

Hobbs said the deputy then used the patrol vehicle to make a forcible stop of Bronsert”s vehicle and he was taken into custody.

Following medical clearance, Bronsert was booked into Lake County Jail for felony evading, driving on a suspended driver”s license, an outstanding warrant and for assault with a deadly weapon against the sheriff”s deputy.

Hobbs said Bronsert”s sole-passenger, identified as Angelina Ketchum, 34, of Clearlake, exited the vehicle at highways 53 and 20 while Bronsert was driving toward Clearlake Oaks. She was later located and arrested for public intoxication while walking along Highway 53.
