LAKE COUNTY — The seal on a pipe off of Reclamation Road in Upper Lake malfunctioned early Monday morning, according to the Department of Water Resources (DWR).

Crews worked to repair the leakage and contained the water by forming a sandbag containment pond, according to DWR.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, Lake County officials reported a potential levee failure on Middle Creek on the north side of Clear Lake.

Clear Lake/Southern Lake County had a flash flood watch in effect until 5 p.m. on Monday.

The National Weather Service in Sacramento issued the flash flood watch for potential levee failure for a portion of Northern California that included the Clear Lake/Southern Lake County area. A leak reported Monday morning on the east bank of Middle Creek near the diversion channel prompted the warning. State and local officials responded to the potential levee failure.

The potential flooded area is between Middle Creek and Page Creek north of the diversion channel and south of Bloody Island Road. People in the area were asked to monitor the news for further updates and to be prepared to respond. A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.

Agencies responding on Monday included: Lake County Department of Water Resources, California Department of Water Resources, Office of Emergency Services, Department of Public Works, Lake County Sheriff”s Office, CALFIRE, Northshore Fire, Bureau of Indian Affairs and Department of Corrections crews.
