PETALUMA — Three St. Vincent pitchers combined on a two-hitter and Brandon Mooney smacked a three-run home run to lead the Mustangs to a 16-0 victory over the Upper Lake Cougars on Monday in the North Central League I South opener for both of these varsity baseball teams at Petaluma.
Wet field conditions were not a problem on St. Vincent”s all-weather playing surface as the Mustangs (1-0, 6-0) beat the Cougars for the 37th consecutive time, a streak that dates back to 1993, according to St. Vincent records.
The game was called after 4 ? innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.
St. Vincent scored in every at-bat and led 11-0 after three innings.
Winning pitcher Michael Meiswinkel worked the first two innings, allowing one hit, striking out two and walking none. Bryan Loberg and Anthony Neve followed Meiskwinkel to the mound.
Losing pitcher Chris Colon allowed four hits and six walks in one-plus innings. He allowed nine runs overall before giving way to Billy Armstrong.
Colon and Stoney Timmons had the only hits for Upper Lake (0-1, 2-3).
For St. Vincent, Stewart Perry went 2-for-4 with a RBI and Chris Braun went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and scored three times.
Upper Lake is scheduled to host Anderson Valley on Friday at 4 p.m.
