NICE — The service of a search warrant by the Sheriff”s Narcotics Task Force resulted in two arrests, the seizure of methamphetamine and the seizure of cash for asset forfeiture.
On Wednesday, narcotics detectives secured a search warrant for the person, home and vehicle of Jane Dee Corbett, 50. On Thursday at 1:20 p.m., detectives served the warrant at Corbett”s home at the Tree Haven Resort on Highway 20 in Nice.
After getting no response at the door, narcotics detectives forced their way into the home. When they entered, detectives found Thomas Glenn Meyer, 51, also of Nice, standing in a bedroom doorway. Detectives heard a toilet flush and Corbett emerged from a bathroom. Detectives determined that they had interrupted a narcotics transaction in progress and that Corbett allegedly disposed of narcotics down the toilet. Both suspects were detained without incident.
During a search of the home, narcotics detectives located a police scanner that was programmed to monitor the Sheriff”s primary radio frequency. In the bedroom, detectives located a hidden storage container disguised as a soda can on top of a dresser. Concealed inside of the can, detectives found two bags containing approximately one-quarter of an ounce of methamphetamine. Another bag of methamphetamine was located concealed in a candle holder in the bedroom.
Detectives also found packaging material, digital scale, narcotics paraphernalia and other evidence of the sales and use of narcotics in the home. A search of Corbett”s vehicle and purse produced more than $700, which was seized for asset forfeiture as the suspected profits of drug trafficking.
Corbett was arrested for possession of a controlled substance for sales and possession of narcotics paraphernalia. Meyer was arrested on an outstanding bench warrant for a prior narcotics case. Both suspects were booked at the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility.
The Sheriff”s Narcotics Task Force will continue its efforts to eradicate narcotics from the communities of Lake County and seize suspected profits from narcotics sales for asset forfeiture proceedings whenever possible.
