PETALUMA — Katelyn Spooner and Raelynn Scott had Lower Lake”s only hits as the Trojans fell 11-0 to the St. Vincent Mustangs in a non-league softball game on Monday at St. Vincent High School.
Lower Lake (1-2) had gone 17 days without playing a game because of the weather.
“We haven”t played since Clear Lake (March 11),” Lower Lake coach Tim Sherrell said. “It was like starting a new season.”
Lower Lake”s young roster needs games to improve and Sherrell said he expects the Trojans to pick up the pace if the weather cooperates.
“It was just nice to play a game,” Sherrell said.
St. Vincent scored six times in the bottom of the third to open up a 9-0 lead. The Mustangs added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. The game was called because of the 10-run rule after the Trojans failed to score in the top of the fifth.
Lower Lake”s defense committed just one error.
“We made some nice plays,” Sherrell said of the glove work turned in by center fielder Spooner, second baseman Katlyn Mintel and left fielder Shadae White.
Middletown 18, Healdsburg 16 (8)
At Healdsburg, winning pitcher Kaitlyn Swank worked out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the bottom of the seventh inning and reliever Victoria Alessandra left the tying runs on base in the bottom of the eighth to record the save as the Middletown Mustangs beat the Healdsburg Greyhounds in a wild, wild non-league game.
Healdsburg pitching walked 27 batters and hit five while Middletown”s three pitchers — Swank, Alessandra and starter Maria Castaldo — combined to walk 11 and hit four.
Castaldo and Roshell Dunlap (1-for-3) each drew five walks while Middletown”s No. 9 hitter, Kiley Agapoff, was hit three times.
Healdsburg twice erased seven-run leads after falling behind 7-0 and 15-8. Middletown (1-3) scored three times in the top of the eighth to snap a 15-15 tie, including RBI singles by Dunalp and Rachel Sutton.
The Mustangs won their first game of the season despite getting only five hits.
“It was a surreal game,” Middletown coach Bob Cummesky said. “But an ugly win beats a pretty loss anytime.”
Middletown returns to action today in Upper Lake at 4 p.m.
