CLEARLAKE — Daniel Laine Wood, 29, of Middletown was found guilty on two misdemeanor counts of indecent exposure and annoying or molesting a child.
On Wedneday, Wood was found guilty on two misdemeanor counts following several days of trial and a 45-minute deliberation by the jury in Department 4 of the Lake County Superior Court.
Wood was found guilty of indecent exposure and annoying or molesting a child.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on April 18.
The case against Wood stems from an August 2010 incident in Middletown, in which he reportedly exposed his genitals to two 12-year-old girls before fleeing the area on a bicycle.
When the incident was reported to sheriff”s deputies on August 28, 2010, the identity of the suspect was not known to the victims.
Several months after the incident, the victims reported seeing the suspect again at the Middletown Library.
Further investigation by sheriff”s deputies working the Middletown area and the Sheriff”s Major Crimes Unit eventually led to the suspect being identified as Wood.
Wood had been the subject of several previous contacts by the Sheriff”s Office involving alleged sexually deviant behavior.
Solid investigative work and coordination between Deputies Kellie Joseph, Dennis Keithly, Bill Djernes, then Deputy Frank Rivero, and Detective Mike Curran led to a warrant being issued for Wood and he was arrested on Dec. 29.
Wood remains in the custody of the Sheriff pending sentencing for his crimes on April 18.
Wood”s convictions will require mandatory public registration as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
