PETALUMA — Evan Knight fired an even-par round of 72 and the St. Vincent Mustangs established themselves as the team to beat is in the Coastal Mountain Conference South golf standings with a dominating victory at Rooster Run Golf Club.

St. Vincent finished with a score of 313 (the total of its four low individual rounds) to easily beat out Middletown (375), Kelseyville (379) and St. Helena (387). Rincon Valley Christian had an incomplete team (fewer than four golfers) and Calistoga”s team was a no-show.

“Their highest kept score (83) beat our lowest score,” Kelseyville coach John Berry said. “It”s St. Vincent and the five dwarves. They”re very solid, a very talented team. I don”t see anyone coming close to competing with them.”

Blaine Ruggio led Middletown with a 77 that included one birdie. Teammate Daniel Eagle added a 84 with one birdie.

For Kelseyville, Wyatt Ferrell”s 84 and Corey Huber”s 87 with one birdie led the way.

“I”m thinking we can do a lot better than we did today,” Berry said.

Joining Knight and Ruggio with rounds in the 70s were cousins Nick Cazet (74) of St. Helena and Kasey Cazet (77) of Rincon Valley Christian.

“I thought the course played tough, so it was impressive,” Berry said of the golfers who shot in the 70s.

The Knights play Monday in the Ukiah Tournament and they play Napa on Tuesday at Chardonnay Golf and Country Club in Napa. CMC South action resumes a week from today at Adams Springs on Cobb Mountain.
