LAKE COUNTY — Lake County Wine Studio will be hosting a wine tasting event featuring the wines of Shannon Ridge and Vigilance Wineries on Friday, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, from 4 to 7 p.m.
The event will feature art by graphic design artist Timothy O”Meara and woodcarvings from David Price Lewis. Musician Chris Forshay will be featured as well, playing acoustic blues, folk and classic rock.
A $10 wine sampler with paired appetizers designed by Shannon Michelle will be offered at the event. The pairing will feature Shannon Ranch”s locally raised, hormone-free grass-fed lamb. Wines to be sampled include a Shannon Ridge 2009 “Ranch Collection” Sauvignon Blanc, Vigilance 2009 Sauvignon Blanc, Shannon Ridge 2008 Roussanne and Vigilance 2008 Cimarron.
Clay and Margarita Shannon started making wine at their High Valley American Viticultural Area (AVA) vineyards in 2002. An AVA is a federally-recognized grape-growing region. The vineyards are located at 2,200 feet on steep slopes. Their Shannon Ridge wines have received many accolades and awards.
The Shannons opened Vigilance in late October. The vineyards and tasting room overlook Anderson Marsh State Historic Park and McVicar Wildlife Sanctuary in the Red Hills AVA. Both vineyards are sustainably farmed, relying on a natural land management approach that encourages wildlife activity and involves farm animals, such as the sheep that reside in the vineyards to eat the weeds.
O”Meara was born and raised in Upper Lake. He studied graphic design and visual arts at California State University, Chico, graduating in May 2010. He works with a variety of media to create digital art.
Lewis was born in Salt Lake City. He worked in Los Angeles”s San Fernando Valley in home construction as a young man before moving to West Virginia, where he became interested in wildflower and nature photography.
