FORT BRAGG — Too many walks (nine) and too many errors (nine) added up to nothing but trouble for the Upper Lake Cougars, 11-0 losers in five innings to the Fort Bragg Timberwolves on Thursday in a non-league softball game on the Mendocino County coast.

Losing pitcher Van-essa Hanson walked five in the bottom of the first inning as the Timberwolves (2-1) took control with a six-run inning. Katherine Edmonds relieved to start the second inning but the Cougars (2-2) never recovered.

Upper Lake”s scorebook had the Timberwolves for only three hits while the Cougars pounded out eight. Hanson went 3-for-3 and Edmonds 2-for-3.

“We have seven sophomores, two juniors and one senior,” Upper Lake coach Kelly Coburn said. “We lack that extra maturity.”

Winning pitcher Cassidy Lowe struck out six and walked none in four innings.

Upper Lake returns home Tuesday to host Lower Lake at 4 p.m.
