CLEARLAKE — Court proceedings in the double homicide case against Elijah Bae McKay, 28, were delayed Tuesday in South Lake Superior Court Department 4 in Clearlake. As of 3 p.m., proceedings were still awaiting the arrival of McKay”s attorney, Richard Peterson.
Deputy District Attorney Susan Krones said Peterson faxed a letter over to the court. Peterson did not show up. Krones had not seen the letter.
McKay stands charged along with Robby Alan Beasley, 30, in connection with the deaths of two Maine residents whose bodies were discovered partially decomposed in early March 2010. The bodies were located at the bottom of an embankment off of Morgan Valley Road. According to Lake County Sheriff, an autopsy of Frank and Yvette Maddox”s bodies revealed both sustained gunshot wounds among other injuries.
Lake County Sheriff said McKay was identified as a person of interest in the Maddox murders about one week into the investigation. Following service of a search warrant at his Lower Lake home, McKay was arrested on marijuana cultivation, possession for sales and weapons charges.
McKay remains in custody. He is scheduled to be back in court on April 26 at 8:15 a.m. in South Lake Superior Court Department 4 to reset his preliminary hearing or enter a plea.
