COBB — Snow flurries and temperatures in the low 30s greeted Coastal Mountain Conference South golfers on Thursday during a match at Adams Springs Golf Course on Cobb Mountain.

It still wasn”t enough to cool off the St. Vincent High School team, which breezed to a 38-stroke victory over Middletown while improving to 10-0 in the South standings.

“It probably snowed for six of the 18 holes,” Kelseyville High School coach John Berry said. “It was cold.”

While the wintertime conditions caused a minor inconvenience for the golfers, Berry said the general consensus was that it was still better than playing in heavy rain, heavy wind or both.

“The snow wasn”t sticking,” Berry said.

Evan Knight fired an even-par 68 to lead St. Vincent. The sophomore was coming off an even-par 72 last week during the CMC South opener at Rooster Run in Petaluma.

“They also have a freshman, Ricky Young, who shot an 81,” Berry said. “They”re built to last for the next few years.”

Among other rounds in the 70s, Middletown”s Blaine Ruggio fired a 72, Rincon Valley Christian”s Kasey Cazet had 73, Kelseyville”s Corey Huber carded a 75, and St. Helena”s Nicholas Cazet had 77.

St. Vincent”s team total of 308 easily topped the field. Middletown was next at 343, St. Helena had 382, Kelseyville was fourth at 391, Rincon Valley Christian was incomplete (fewer than four golfers), and Calistoga was a no-show.

Adam Springs also received snow in mid-April of 2006 during a CMC match.

The next CMC South match is Tuesday at Hidden Valley Lake.
