CLOVERDALE — Moses Kuzu and Nils Mostin didn”t lose a single game on Wednesday afternoon as the Kelseyville High School tennis team registered win No. 1 of the 2011 season with a 4-1 victory over the Cloverdale Eagles.
Kuzu blanked Sal Mendoza 6-0, 6-0 in first singles while Mostin won by the same score against Jesus Cardenas in second singles.
Kelseyville”s lone loss came in third singles where Daniel Lucas fell 6-4, 6-4 to Brian Wells.
“That was a good match,” Kelseyville coach Jeff McLaren said.
Kelseyville swept the two doubles matches. Max Lehman and Kyle Schmidt defeated Hannah Pope and Alexis Hernandez 6-1, 6-2 in first doubles, and Ashley Taylor and Ryan Schmidt prevailed 6-0, 6-1 over Ciera Palmer and Marian Ramirez in second doubles.
Kelseyville, (1-3) returns home Friday for a rematch with the Eagles at 4 p.m.
Clear Lake 3, Anderson Valley 2
At Boonville, Andreina Guedez and Gabriela Reyes breezed to 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles as the Clear Lake tennis team improved to 3-2 on the season with a non-conference victory over Anderson Valley.
Guedez beat Drake Mezzanatto in first singles while Reyes shut out Rachel Juster in second singles on a cold and windy day in Boonville.
“It was freezing and the wind was blowing like crazy,” Clear Lake coach Milo Meyer said.
Kenny Henninger and Tamara Rojas provided the Cardinals with their third win of the day, rallying for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory in second doubles.
“They started slow and finished strong,” Meyer said.
In other matches, Anderson Valley”s Chavo Elijio beat Nathan Harper 6-2, 6-2 in third singles, and Kristen Anderson and Stephanie Garcia beat Clear Lake”s Darcy McCarrick and Clhoe Rojans 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 in first doubles.
