KELSEYVILLE — Sophomore Arnulfo Vargas won all three jumping events and ran the third leg on Kelseyville High School”s winning 4×100-meter relay team Wednesday during a seven-team Coastal Mountain Conference track meet at Kelseyville High School.

In addition to host Kelseyville, athletes from Lower Lake, Middletown, St. Vincent, Cloverdale, Anderson Valley and Potter Valley attended the meet.

Vargas, who is just a sophomore, cleared 5 feet, 8 inches to win the varsity boys” high jump, 18-10 ? to win the long jump, and 40-2 to win the triple jump.

“There is lots of spring in his legs,” Kelseyville coach Rob Ishihara said. “He”s a very good athlete.”

Kelseyville won the 4×100 in 48.5 seconds.

Varsity girls

Middletown won nine events to dominate the varsity girls” division.

Double-event winners for the Mustangs were Amber Ramponi in the high jump (4-4) and long jump (13-8) and Miriam Lane in the 1,600 run (6 minutes, 20 seconds) and 3,200 (14:30). Single-event winners were Amber Hart in the 300 low hurdles (57.50), Cheyenne Snow in the discus (76-0) and Emily Reed in the triple jump (29-4).

The Mustangs” other firsts were in the 4×100 relay (55.72) and 4×400 relay (5:14).

Frosh-soph boys

Jerald Drummond of Lower Lake won the frosh-soph 100 dash in a blistering 10.21 seconds — which was faster than the varsity winner (11.16) — while also adding firsts in the long jump and high jump.

Kelseyville, Lower Lake, Middletown and Clear Lake compete in the annual Lake County Meet next Wednesday in Lakeport at 3:30 p.m.

“The meet ran really well thanks to Rico Abordo,” Ishihara said of the school”s former longtime track and cross country coach. “He was our starter. If it wasn”t for him, I”d still be out there. He was a big help.”
