What will he do to cut the deficit?
I see where Mike Thompson is at it again. In this case, Mike claims to be all for deficit reduction.
But, the various spending cuts proposed by the Republicans are, surprise, all bad.
And what does Mike propose to cut instead? Exactly nothing. Instead, he thinks we should cut spending where it”s deserved. Good idea. How about cutting the federal handouts for the annual cowboy poetry festival in Elko, Nevada?
Have we come to the point as a nation where even the most symbolic of our rugged individualists, cowboys, just can”t manage to put pen to paper without a government check? If cowboys can”t write poetry without a government check, how can they manage to get drunk without a government check? Maybe we should underwrite an annual “Ye Olde Drunken Cowboy Brawl” every year in Tonopah, Nevada. If we did, would Mike be in favor of cutting that? Is he in favor of doing anything at all to cut the deficit besides sitting at his typewriter?
