HEALDSBURG ? A scheduled non-league softball game Wednesday afternoon between the Lower Lake Trojans and Healdsburg Greyhounds was called because of rain in the bottom of the first inning at Healdsburg High School.

The game opened in a steady light rain and both pitchers — Healdsburg”s Katie Curry and Lower Lake”s Amanda Graf — had trouble gripping the ball as the rain continued to fall through the opening inning.

Lower Lake scored a run in the top of the first after two were out and the bases empty. Adrina Miller singled to center field and moved around to third base on Isabelle Azbill”s single. Azbill moved up to second on the throw to third. After Shadae White drew a walk to load the bases, Miller scored on a wild pitch.

Healdsburg tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Graf struck out Chanae McCann to open the bottom of the first but walked each of the next two hitters, both of whom advanced on a wild pitch. Kim KcKernan followed with a double off the outstretched glove of Lower Lake”s left fielder, but only one run scored on the play as the runner at second base hesistated going around third and stopped there.

Graf continued to struggle gripping the wet ball and walked Katie Curry to load the bases, at which point Lower Lake coach Tim Sherrell called a timeout. Before he had time to discuss the situation with Graf, the home plate umpire called the game as the steady light rain continued to dampen the playing field.
