The least we can do for those who have died in foreign wars is to erect memorials in the home city for those who have given their lives. Washington D.C. has the Korean and Vietnam Memorials.
Nationally, it”s OK, but I think it would be more representative and a stronger statement to honor war heroes locally.
It wouldn”t take that much land or expense to construct an obelisk, nor too much research to find out whose name should be inscribed. Even fire fighters and police should be recognized. The memorial to Officer Helbush near the County Jail is “hardly fitting” for the sacrifice made. It is rather insignificant, to say the least. County Supervisors, don”t you agree? A street name? What about Matthew Black, the firefighter?
