LAKEPORT ? Clear Lake High School Cardinals varsity softball game against the Cloverdale High School Eagles hardly began as a nail-biter. The Eagles were up 15 runs when the Cards turned everything around.

“We were 15 runs down going into the bottom of the fourth. We lost our composure and made some mistakes,” Clear Lake Coach Gary Pickle said. “We regrouped and ended up scoring 17 runs overall.”

The first inning was scoreless. In the second inning Cloverdale scored the first run and the Cardinals were still at zero. The Eagles followed in the third with five more runs to the Cardinals zero.

By inning four, the Eagles scored another nine, but the Cardinals countered this time with seven runs.

The fifth inning belonged squarely to Clear Lake with six more runs in to Cloverdale”s zero. In the sixth inning the Cardinals scored two and the Eagles one.

In the bottom of the seventh Clear Lake was one run down and Kelcie Reynolds doubled home the tying run with two outs.

Clear Lake sealed the deal in the eighth inning when Heather White hit a sacrifice fly into deep center to score. Morgan Psalmonds had the winning run. The final score was 17-16 Clear Lake.
