LAKEPORT — Local and out-of-county agencies have expressed interest in receiving a state designation once held by the Lake County Community Action Agency (LCCAA), county officials said Tuesday.

Social Services Director Carol Huchingson and County Administrator Kelly Cox presented a status update about the LCCAA during Tuesday”s regular meeting of the Lake County Board of Supervisors.

In early April, the LCCAA relinquished its status as the local agency eligible to administer services to county residents via the federally funded Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) program.

The state issued a request for application on April 22 seeking a replacement private nonprofit organization to administer the anti-poverty program services.

The state has set an application deadline of May 27 and hopes to award the designation by mid-June in order to allow funding to begin by July 1, Huchingson said.

The state would make the final decision regarding which agency becomes the county”s new contracting agency for the CSBG program, Huchingson said.

The awarded group would have to be based in or adjacent to Lake County, and a state official reported having a mailing list of 31 parties interested in earning the designation, according to Huchingson.
