LAKEPORT — Lakeport Police Department (LPD) School Resource Officer Stephanie Green led discussions on Wednesday evening about school-related issues at the most recent LPD town hall meeting.
Approximately a dozen people, mainly parents, attended the meeting, at which Green presented along with Terrace Middle School counselor Kris Andre and county Alcohol and Other Drug Services (AODS) substance abuse counselor Carrie White.
Green discussed issues including the local DARE program, drug recognition, peer pressure and cyber-bullying. Andre described her school”s “Steps to Respect” anti-bullying program, and White talked about AODS substance-abuse prevention and treatment programs for youths.
Green emphasized that keeping kids on the right track requires a collaborative effort between school officials, parents and students.
Interim Police Chief Brad Rasmussen said the LPD would take a break from holding town hall meetings until the early fall. The department is open to receiving suggestions from the public about future town-hall topics, he said.
