Lately, Tinsley has been taking satirical potshots at education generally and education majors particularly. But for California teachers, Tinsley jests at scars that never felt a wound.
Every teacher in California must have an academic major. Education is not an academic major. Therefore, education majors cannot teach in California and this requirement has existed for at least the last 30 years.
This requirement was enacted to avoid many of the problems that Tinsley lampoons in his cartoons.
The main one, of course, was (and is) the lack of academic rigor involved in completing such a major.
