LAKEPORT — Films are being accepted through Sunday for the second annual We Love Tules Four-Minute Film Festival. Art in Public Places to accept work May 19

LAKEPORT ? The Lake County Arts Council (LCAC)”s Art in Public Places is a program offering local professional and non-professional artists an opportunity to display their works in high-visibility locations in Lake County. The artwork may include oils, acrylics, photographs and mixed media, all of which have been securely prepared for hanging. The program can only accept artwork that can hang.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. only, on May 19, Lake County Arts Council staff will receive work in the main lobby of the Lake County Courthouse. All works received will be hung in the courthouse as space allows and also Lakeport City Hall on Park Street.

Another location for Art in Public Places is the Lake County Visitor Center in Lucerne. To learn more about hanging work at this location, call the LCAC office, 263-6658, and request more information.

May 19 is also the only time for picking up artwork from the prior show. This new exhibit will show through Sept. 15. The LCAC will handle art sales through its gallery. Artwork in these exhibits should not be removed without notifying the LCAC beforehand.

Art in Public Places welcome new exhibitors. There is a small fee of $1 per piece to enter work and there will be a 20-percent commission paid to the Lake County Arts Council by members and 30 percent by non-members should any work be sold. Work may be for sale or just to show. Membership is not required, but the LCAC encourages all those interested to become committed members and financial supporters. Free proctoring available at Lakeport Library

LAKEPORT — Free proctering is available to students who need a proctor for online college exams at the Lakeport Library, 1425 High St. Proctors are generally available on Thursday afternoons. For more information, contact the Lakeport Library at 263-8817. Donations for this service are graciously accepted by Friends of the Lake County Library.

Auction of Sherf collection at Main Street Gallery

LAKEPORT — The Lake County Arts Council will be holding an auction of works of art from the well-known collector Jerry Sherf at 2 p.m. on May 22 at the Main Street Gallery, 325 N. Main St. in Lakeport. There will be a live auction of 30 pieces and a silent auction of many more. The auction will be conducted by Bert Hutt, who has served at all of the previous auctions at the Main Street Gallery. The live auction is expected to take about an hour. Doors will open at noon. Refreshments will be served to all who register to bid.

The work will be available for preview from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, beginning Tuesday and continuing until the auction, in the back of the Main Street Gallery.

Sherf had a large collection of works from Lake County artists. According to LCAC webmaster Xian Yeagan, Sherf tried to have at least one piece of artwork from each, and from some whom he favored he had many examples. He was well-liked by many artists and he would go out of his way to help them by hanging their work and lending them frames and materials. Sherf died around the first of the year, after a long illness. He will be missed by many. For more information, call the Main Street Gallery at 263-6658.

Vikings of Lake presents music concert

SODA BAY — Knut Erik Jensen returns for his third musical engagement, 2 p.m. May 22 in the Galilee Lutheran Church sanctuary, 8860 Soda Bay Road.

Jensen”s performance is sponsored by The Vikings of Lake Lodge No. 6-166, Sons of Norway.

Jensen, originally from Hell, Norway, will entertain listeners vocally, on piano and with accordion.

A reception takes place in the fellowship hall following the performance. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet the artist, enjoy sm?rbr?d (Scandinavian open-faced sandwiches), Scandinavian cookies, coffee and tea. Wine will be available for purchase. The Norwegians will be celebrating their “Constitution Day,” Syttende Mai, May 17.

The suggested donation is $10 per person. Proceeds will help benefit the Adopt-a-School Program, which provides book bags with supplies to needy students in Lake County.

Auditions to be held in Lakeport and Lower Lake

LAKE COUNTY — Lake County Theatre Company will hold auditions for the comedy, “The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen”s Guild Dramatic Society Murder Mystery,” 5 to 8 p.m. May 24 and 26 at the Little Theatre on the Lake County Fairgrounds and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 28 in Weaver Auditorium at the Lower Lake Historic Schoolhouse Museum. Ending times are subject to change depending on turnout. There are parts for four women and one man; performances will be in September. Applicants are encouraged, but not required, to prepare two contrasting 2-minute monologues. For more information, call Sue or Mill Garrett at 998-0224.

Salituri to judge juried art show

LAKEPORT — Gail Salituri will judge the June juried show, “The Lake County Landscape,” at the Main Street Gallery in Lakeport.

Salituri served as a judge for the California County Fair System during a period of 10 years. Her art career started with studies at San Jose City College, where she spent many seminars with internationally-known artists including Leonard Wren, Bill Schnider and Rom Villa. Since that time she has received many accolades for her work, which is done exclusively in oils. Working from her Lake County home, she depicts California” missions, courtyards, vineyards and wineries. Her work has appeared in “Steppin Out,” “Southwest Art” and “Art of the West” magazines. Her work is currently featured in the Lee Youngman Gallery in Calistoga and her own Inspirations Gallery in Lakeport.

Lake County artists wishing to submit their work for jury can pick up entry information from the Main Street Gallery. Work will be received from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 20 at the gallery, or by special appointment by calling the show coordinator Ray Farrow, 278-0323.

Work juried into the show will hang in the Linda Carpenter Gallery for the month of June. There will be two awards, the “Judges Award” and the “People”s Choice Award,” both of which will be presented during the First Friday Fling on June 3.

?Christmas in July” invites vendors

LAKEPORT — Local artists are encouraged to take part in the Lakeport Senior Activity Center”s “Christmas in July” craft show, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 16. Handcrafters from all around the lake are invited to rent a space at the show. A total of 30 tables are available and the fee is $25 per table.

Food will be available at the show and entertainment from local groups. The art students at the center will provide a show of their creations.

The garden and playground will be open for playing horseshoes and lounging in the shade. Anyone interested should contact event co-chair Pam Plank at 272-3665.

Applications can be picked up at the senior center or the Meals On Wheels Thrift Store at 560 Lakeport Blvd. in Lakeport. The deadline for registering is June 24 with both the application and fee.
