LAKEPORT — Stephen J. Kennedy, 46, of Lakeport was arrested shortly after 8 a.m. on Friday for driving while under the influence of alcohol and hit-and-run.
Kennedy allegedly crashed his Dodge Ram truck into the Peggy Campbell accounting office located at 401 N. Main St., according to Lakeport Police Department (LPD).
Kennedy allegedly fled the scene. LPD Officer Norm Taylor responded to the area of north Lakeport after receiving a call for the hit-and-run crash.
Taylor located the vehicle parked partially on the sidewalk on Clearlake Ave. near High Street where it was blocked in by an A-1 Tow Truck driven by Gerald Byers who witnessed the crash and followed Kennedy. Byers positioned the tow truck to prevent Kennedy from leaving the scene and causing any further accidents.
Kennedy was located standing next to the truck. During the investigation it was determined that Kennedy was under the influence of alcohol and was placed under arrest for DUI and hit-and-run.
Kennedy was booked at the Hill Road Correctional Facility.
