MIDDLETOWN — The Willits Wolverines scored early and often while sending the Middletown Mustangs to a 12-0 loss in a North Central League I North softball game on Thursday in Middletown.

It was the league and season finale for the Mustangs, who finish 3-5 in the North and 7-12 overall.

“I”m happy,” Middletown coach Bob Cummesky said. “We”re still a young team. We”re losing only three seniors.”

Those three seniors — Victoria Alessandra, Mahkenzie Miller and Hannah Williams — all started while batting 1-3 in the lineup.

“It was senior day at Middletown,” Cummesky said. “It wasn”t the best game for Vic to go out on, but she gave us everything she had the last few years.”

Alessandra was the starting pitcher and took the loss. She allowed 12 runs on 14 hits in three innings.

“Whatever they”ve got in the water in Willits, I want some of it,” Cummesky said of the Wolverines. “They pound the ball up and down that lineup.”

Willits had 17 hits, including two triples and four RBIs by winning pitcher Meranda Powers, who struck out three and walked one while scattering five hits.

The Wolverines did all of the their scoring in the first three innings of the five-inning game, getting five runs in the first, three in the second and four in the third.

Willimas, Kristiana Outen, Roshell Dunlap, Maria Castaldo and Cheyanne Horvath had one hit apiece for the Mustangs, who improved from 3-17 in 2010.

Willits now 5-2 in league, closes out its North schedule today at home against Lower Lake.
