LAKEPORT — The Lake County Board of Supervisors (BOS) met briefly in Lakeport Tuesday morning to address several issues before adjourning to attend the California Workforce Investment Board (CWIB) meeting in Sacramento.

The regular BOS meeting adjourned locally at 9:50 a.m. and the Supervisors and some county staff traveled to Sacramento, where the BOS meeting was scheduled to reconvene as the CWIB considered the county”s request to join the Napa County Workforce Investment Area.

Several local Supervisors were among the speakers at the meeting, and the CWIB deliberated and voted unanimously to approve of Lake County”s request to partner with Napa County, according to District 4 Supervisor Anthony Farrington.

The new partnership would provide the county with “creative ways to grow our economy at a local level,” Farrington said.

Developing a joint powers agreement between the two counties is the next step in the process and that agreement will be presented for BOS approval at a meeting later this year, Farrington said.

Among the issues addressed by the BOS at the Lake County Courthouse was a proposed ordinance amending the Lake County Code as it pertains to the transient occupancy tax (TOT).

The proposed changes included clarifying certain definitions and strengthening enforcement provisions for TOT delinquency, according to Lake County Treasurer-Tax Collector Sandra Shaul.

The BOS indicated support for the changes by voting unanimously to waive reading the entire proposed ordinance, having it read in title only, and to advance the second reading to May 24. Such ordinances typically go into effect 30 days after the second reading.

The BOS presented a proclamation designating the current week as National Public Works Week. Nearly 25 representatives of several county departments stood as District 3 Supervisor Denise Rushing read the declaration.

The BOS adopted another proclamation Tuesday, commemorating the sesquicentennial of Lake County being established as a California county. The BOS did not present the proclamation, instead reserving it for Friday”s 150-year anniversary celebration.
