MIDDLETOWN — Expect to see a sea of purple and gold when the North Coast Section Class A Track Championships take place Saturday at Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa.

Middletown High School”s track teams are sending 29 athletes to the competition, which is a qualifier for the Meet of Champions on May 28 at UC Berkeley. The top three individuals and relay teams advance.

Among those individuals who have an excellent shot at moving on to the MOC are Cheyenne Snow in the discus and shotput, Amber Hart in the 100 low hurdles and 300 low hurdles, and Tanner Alves in the long jump, according to Middletown coach Louise Owens.

“She definitely has a good chance, she”s peaking at the right time,” Owens said of Snow, who finished second in both events last weekend at the Coastal Mountain Conference Championships in St. Helena, where the Middletown girls ran away with the team title, both literally and figuratively.

“The girls were very determined not to share it (with Fort Bragg) this year,” Owens said of the CMC championship pennant, which is now in the Mustangs” possession. “They were greedy this time and that makes me feel great.”

Middletown”s girls” 4×400-meter relay team of Kelly Wilkinson, Brittany Cash, Rose Lynch and Angela Gattoni is another good bet to reach the MOC, according to Owens.

“And if our 4×100 team has a good day, they”ve got a chance,” Owens said of Wilkinson, Cash, Aly Mino and Amber Ramponi.

The Mustangs” NCS girls” roster includes (athletes” events in parenthesis) Ramponi (4×100, 100, high jump), Wilkinson (4×100, 4×400, long jump, triple jump), Mino (4×100, 100), Cash (4×100, 4×400, 100), Lynch (4×400), Gattoni (4×400, 800), Hart (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Snow (shotput, discus), Kyra Roston (100, 200), Michelle Hill (shotput), Brianna Nelson (800, 1,600), Kimmi Klewe (3,200), Amanda Martin (300 hurdles), Tanya Nance (1,600), Emily Reed (long jump, triple jump), Alexis Valdovinos (triple jump), Katy August (long jump), Tina Riccio (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles) and Kristina Herrmann (100 hurdles, long jump).
