Thank you for all the insightful and important fact-finding letters you continue to bring to the public regarding the PG&E SmartMeter program. The fact that our PUC now appears to condone PG&E”s practices is very unsettling. Let me share my latest experience regarding same.

From the beginning, I have opposed and refused to take part in installing the SmartMeters and my meter was not changed at the time most of my neighbors had theirs installed.

Meanwhile, I received mail from PG&E offering me $50 if I would agree to install a SmartMeter on my air conditioning system to monitor its usage for comparison with my neighbors.

To allow installation of the meter on my air conditioning system, while refusing its installation to monitor the rest of my usage, sounded as though I was expected to cave in to a $50 offer.

When I requested more information, my response came in a handwritten envelope with a return address of Goodcents, 1322 Dupont St., Manteca, CA 95336. Enclosed was a copy of the letter I had originally received from PG&E, which indicated that someone connected with PG&E had access to my name and address and passed this along to an entity in Manteca, that has no phone listed at the street address given. However, the letter was run through metered mail. Their original offer has now become $25.

I am resentful and frankly more than worried at such tactics by PG&E as there may be others who have been individually targeted.

The facts are that PG&E had already been using and installing smart meters for several years before they remembered little ole Lake County; thus, we are now being targeted in a rush attempt to get us in line and are not off base in our reactions. There might have been a different outcome had more people in other parts of the state reacted as we have done in recent months.
