LAKEPORT — On Wednesday Lakeport City Manager Margaret Silveira officially offered Brad Rasmussen the position of Lakeport Police Chief.

Rasmussen has served as Interim Police Chief for seven months, since former Lakeport Police Chief Kevin Burke accepted the position of Chief of Police in Healdsburg. Rasmussen has been with Lakeport Police Department (LPD) for 21 years. He was a lieutenant from 2006 to 2010.

Rasmussen said he intends to maintain the high standard of public service to the community despite challenging times and reductions in funding.

“I”m proud to be in a position to serve the citizens of the community,” Rasmussen said on Friday.

Rasmussen said he will utilize a community-oriented policing approach. He plans to interact with the community via town hall meetings, Facebook, Twitter, Nixle and the LPD website.

He said he welcomes communication from the public and will continue to work as a partner with all city government.

LPD employs nine full-time and three part-time sworn peace officers. He would like to replace one position that is currently vacant. Additionally, there are 10 volunteers, one of whom is a reserve police officer.

“The work of our volunteers has been critical to our mission, as we are shorthanded. They are a large part of the reason for our effectiveness,” Rasmussen said.

Rasmussen will be formally sworn in at a June Lakeport City Council meeting.
