BERKELEY — Clear Lake High School”s Brian Bradley not only qualified for the finals in the 300-meter hurdles on Friday during the Meet of Champions at U.C. Berkeley”s Edwards Stadium, but he did it with a flourish.
Bradley, a senior, nailed down the eighth and final berth for today”s 300-meter finals by setting a Clear Lake school-record of 40.38 seconds. Peter Alexander had the old record of 41.0 set in 1993.
Five runners clocked under 40 seconds during three heats of the 300 hurdles on Friday. Kenny Grimble of Las Lomas led the way at 38.37 while winning the third heat. Rom Skrovonski of Newark Memorial won Bradley”s heat at 39.38.
Also on Friday, Kelseyville”s Arnulfo Vargas, who is just a sophomore, finished 16th in the triple jump finals with a mark of 42 feet, 2 1/2 inches. Jonte Grant of Hayward came in first at 47-7.
In girls” action, Middletown”s Cheyenne Snow placed 19th in the shotput finals at 30-8 1/2. Danielle Ioramo of James Long won with a toss of 40-7 1/2.
Middletown”s Tanner Alves will compete in the boys” long jump finals today as the MOC wraps up its two-day run.
The top four MOC qualifiers in all events advance to the CIF State Championships the weekend of June 3-4.
