UPDATED:

On Friday a Bob Knutson letter titled “Take our country back,” was published. While I agree with the title of his article, it is from a 180-percent (opposed) perspective.

I do believe it is time we “took back our country” … but from those who seem to feel their idea of “our country” is a whole lot different from the one I grew up to love and support. We used to enjoy a democracy that governed according to the wishes of the people within that democracy as shown by a 50 (plus) percent majority and the fine art of filibustering was frowned on. Mr. Knutson”s concept of “our country” seems to be authoritarian based, non-majority based and very much against those who cannot pay their way in the country”s economy.

Facing reality is, seemingly, not one of his strong points, but then, neither are economics and demographics. He must be terribly frustrated that poll after poll ? voice of the people, Lord help us ? shows that at least two/third of the voters want to end the two wars, reduce defense spending, want to end subsidies, do not want to deny poor people health care or life needs and have no qualms about increasing the taxes to get the country back to fiscal reality. That a sizable number suggest their lives were better in 2000 than in 2008 must really hurt. So, let”s do as he suggests, “take back our country.”

Additionally, he, concurring with Ridgel, complains that our President has shown none of the qualities of a Commander-in-Chief and precious little in the way of leadership.

One may get away with it in the military world, but the rest of us still have that annoying idea that one must have basis and reason before one may criticize. Just what are the qualities that make a good Commander-in-Chief or a leader?

Also, some examples of those people he thinks do/did have those qualities. I feel we the people deserve the right to be told these things so we may make our own judgments. Time for Knutson and Ridgel (or should we use their retired rank) to offer facts and specifics rather than figments and glittering generalities.
