I would like to comment on our Lake County Board of Supervisor”s recent decision to let Mendocino County dump its waste into our county landfill. I am asking them to please reconsider.
Is there a cooling off period on BOS decisions, letting the supervisors look matters over again to see if what they”ve done is fully in the peoples” and the environment”s best interests?
I don”t understand how this decision in any way adds to the beauty or sustainability of Lake County.
We support local recycling to reduce landfill on the one hand, only to refill our land with another county”s trash on the other?
This idea doesn”t make sense to me. Neither does adding countless runs of large, diesel polluting dump trucks to our scenic highways.
Of course we”ll be paid for this “service” we”re providing for Mendocino County, but does our eye always have to be focused on the dollar sign?
What we truly need to see in this situation is a little more common sense. Lake County deserves that at the very least.
