UPDATED:

Craig Stankiewiez”s placing of “blame” for the installation of SmartMeters on “the Democrats and their leader, Barack Hussein Obama” is not supported by the facts.

The “smart grid” requirement was mandated by the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This law was passed when the Republican party controlled both houses of the legislature.

It was signed into law by Republican President George W. Bush.

The California Public Utilities Commission approved PG&E”s plan to install SmartMeters in July 2006.

Mr. Stankiewiez is correct that funds were provided in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to assist utilities in complying with the mandate enacted during the Republican administration.

I have read past letters from Mr. Stankiewiez. He appears to be an extreme conservative partisan. In his most recent letter he attempts to link a President he does not like with an unpopular program. If placing “blame” for SmartMeters on someone is important to him, he should be placing it on the Republican Party and its leader at the time, George W. Bush.
