CLEARLAKE — An enforcement stop in Clearlake by Lake County Sheriff”s deputies assigned to the Sheriff”s Special Enforcement Detail (SED) resulted in the arrest of a Middletown man on Thursday. According to the Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO), three-quarters of an ounce of methamphetamine was seized in the incident.
According Captain Jim Bauman, deputies assigned to SED were conducting proactive enforcement patrols in the areas of Clearlake and Lower Lake on Thursday. At approximately 12:30 p.m. Bauman said one of the SED deputies observed a white Toyota Solara speeding on Highway 53 near Dam Road. He said as the deputy pulled in behind the Toyota, the driver made an abrupt lane change in an apparent attempt to avoid the deputy. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was identified as William Glynn Graves, 49, of Middletown.
According to Bauman, when the deputy approached Graves, he displayed symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance. While Graves was detained for further examination, a narcotics interdiction K-9 team assigned to the SED arrived to assist.
“The narcotics detection dog was led to the vehicle and alerted on the driver”s area,” Bauman said. “A subsequent search of the vehicle by the K-9 handler revealed approximately one-quarter of an ounce of methamphetamine concealed between the driver”s seat and the center console.”
Graves was arrested and transported to the Lake County Jail for booking. “While being transported to the jail, Grave divulged to the arresting deputy that he had more methamphetamine concealed in the crotch area of his pants,” Bauman said. “When Graves was searched by correctional officers during his booking process, another half-ounce of methamphetamine was recovered from inside of his pants.”
Graves was booked for possession of a controlled substance for sales, transportation of a controlled substance and for being under the influence of a controlled substance. He remains in the custody with bail set at $15,000.
