UPPER LAKE — The service of a search warrant by the Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO) Narcotics Task Force on Thursday afternoon resulted in two arrests and the seizure of methamphetamine and marijuana, according to LCSO Capt. James Bauman.
Narcotics detectives secured a search warrant for the person, home and vehicles of 47-year-old Melanie Lee Combs on June 3 and later conducted surveillance on her residence at the Meadow Point Mobile Home Park in Upper Lake on Thursday, Bauman said.
At approximately noon Thursday, detectives observed a blue Ford pickup leaving the area of Combs”s residence. Combs was identified as a passenger in the truck and pursuant to the search warrant, detectives stopped the truck on Highway 20, Bauman said.
The driver of the truck, identified as Connie Coleen McCowen, 44, of Upper Lake, was determined to be under the influence of a controlled substance and was arrested, according to Bauman.
McCowen and Combs were transported back to Combs”s residence, where detectives completed their service of the search warrant, Bauman said.
While searching the residence, detectives located methamphetamine, two “meth” pipes and two storage bins containing several plastic bags full of processed marijuana and a balancing scale in the bedroom, Bauman said, adding that Combs had no recommendation for medical marijuana.
Detective arrested Combs and transported both women to the Lake County Jail for booking, Bauman said.
Combs was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of narcotics paraphernalia and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. McCowen was charged with being under the influence of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.
“The Sheriff”s Narcotics Task Force will continue its efforts to eradicate narcotics from the communities of Lake County and seize the suspected profits of drug trafficking for asset forfeiture whenever possible,” Bauman said.
