UPDATED:

I”m delighted to report that activities at the Soper-Reese Community Theatre have not slowed down with yet another round of incredible performances from our local talent. For the 30th year, the Lake County Arts Council presented the Spring Dance Festival and for the second year this event was held at the Soper-Reese Community Theatre.

Featuring local dancers, both young and old, from the various dance groups around the county, this event again showed the versatility of the Soper-Reese. With the expandability of the stage and the use of the Lake County Arts Council”s dance floor, the event brought to life expression through movement highlighting our community”s extensive talents.

It has always been our dream that the Soper-Reese will become a place where collaboration between different performing organizations can happen. That dream is beginning to come true, just as the original visionaries foresaw. This was evident with the Clear Lake Performing Arts (CLPA)”s Mother”s Day symphony concert. The success of this sold-out event was a direct result of the Soper-Reese and the CLPA working together to bring to the community this high quality program. Two 100-percent volunteer organizations, committed to the arts in Lake County, came together toward this shared purpose. This was best said by one of our patrons who wrote us the following:

“Nice job today! The red flowers created depth to the presentation. The audience enjoyed themselves to the max. Great hosting! Great announcing! Great variety! Great treats for audience folks, as well as the orchestra! Glorious day to go to something special! The temperature of the room was just right! Smiles were flying!”

It is this kind of response that keeps our volunteers energized and committed to the theater. We can”t thank them enough.

The Third Friday Live series has been a big hit with the community. In fact, the energy at this event fostered discussion about holding a New Year”s Eve bash featuring the LC Diamonds. Stay tuned for more on this big night at the Soper-Reese.

Finally, coming up is the addition of a new projector and screen, thanks to the generosity of the Lakeport Rotary. The system is in and tested, with an interface to our outstanding sound system. Plans for a film series are in the works.

More events are coming, so stay tuned and thanks for your support.

Mike Adams is executive director of the Soper-Reese Community Theatre.
