UKIAH — The Bill Binns Machine Shop modifieds return to the Ukiah Speedway Saturday night to prepare for their next event in the Tri-Track Modified Challenge Series on June 25.
The Tri-Track Modified Challenge series includes races held at Ukiah, Shasta Raceway Park in Anderson and Redwood Acres Raceway in Eureka. Modified race cars have not raced at Ukiah since early May.
Joining the modifieds for the first time in 2011 are the Nor-Cal Hard Tops. The Nor-Cal Hard Top Association is comprised of a group of nostalgic race car buffs who have taken their antique race cars out of the garages, replaced worn-out and rusty parts, rebuilt engines, and literally brought these hard tops back to life.
Most of these old-timers race the cars themselves and trek around the track at speeds sometimes faster than these cars originally went back in the 1930s, 40s and 50s.
Joining the modifieds and Hard Tops are the Dennis Furia Heating & Air bandoleros, the Bud Bombers and the 4-Bangers. Gates open at the Ukiah Speedway at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m. Call the speedway office at 274-1354 for more information or visit the website at www.UkiahSpeedway.com
