CLEARLAKE — Work recently began on a highway rehabilitation project on Highway 53 at Olympic Drive, just south of 40th Avenue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect and motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
According to Caltrans, the project will include widening shoulders, adding and extending turn pockets at intersections, installation of a traffic signal at Olympic Drive, installation of lighting at intersections and repaving of about four miles of highway. Caltrans representative Phil Frisbie, Jr. said the purpose of the project is to bring this section of highway up to current design standards and enhance safety for all highway users, motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.
Work is expected to be complete by fall 2012.
