CLEARLAKE — A Clearlake man was killed Sunday in a traffic collision at Highway 53 and Dam Road. Brian Chatfield, 53, succumbed to his injuries sustained after his motorcycle collided with another vehicle.
Clearlake Police Department (CPD) was dispatched to the intersection at about 6:52 p.m. According to the CPD, an off-duty medical technician was already on scene and was providing first aid to Chatfield, who was the solo rider of a Honda motorcycle.
Investigation of the incident determined that Chatfield was riding his motorcycle northbound on Highway 53 approaching the intersection at Dam Road. Jeremy Schenck, 29, of Clearlake was traveling southbound on Highway 53, making a left turn onto Dam Road. CPD said that Schenck entered the intersection on a green light.
“Schenck was making his turning movement and was into the intersection when Chatfield collided into the passenger side of Schenck”s vehicle,” Interim Chief of Police Craig Clausen said. “Chatfield was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased by medical personnel.”
All witnesses were interviewed at the scene and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone else with any information regarding this traffic collision is urged to contact Officer A. Collier at 994-8251.
