Last week a nice thing happened. As I was crossing the Record-Bee parking lot to deliver a note, who should come out of the office but Randy Ridgel and his wife. We are acquainted, no, we don”t talk politics and I like them.
They both are assets to our county and Randy does good work with the Historical Society. I mentioned I had seen the article on their granddaughter and they smiled.
I then told Randy that I had thought I would see an article from him on Memorial Day, but no. I said I had transmission problems and had missed the deadline. I told him that I felt much too much time was spent on decorated gravestones and those who were dead and not nearly enough appreciation and attention was given to those many “survivors” of trauma who were left injured and maimed, both mentally and physically, and are fighting to get back what part of their lives they can.
Randy thought and said, “I think you”re right.”
As they moved off I suggested that next year perhaps we might work on that. I think I heard a “Sounds good.” I hope I heard correctly, it would be nice to work with him on a meritorious, but non-political, project.
