CLEARLAKE — Clearlake Police reported speaking with murder suspect Kevin Stone, 29, via telephone on Wednesday. Sgt. T. Celli said the conversation took place out-of-county.
According to Celli, the conversation pertained to Stone possibly turning himself into authorities. Celli said surrender arrangements were made, which included participation by an attorney on Stone”s behalf; however, Stone failed to show up at the surrender location.
Stone is being sought in connection with a shooting incident that occurred June 18 on Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake. Skyler Rapp, 4, was killed in the incident and five others suffered major gunshot injuries.
Interim Chief of Police Craig Clausen said that detectives continue to actively seek Stone”s whereabouts. Stone is described as a white man, 6-feet 1-inch tall weighing approximately 165 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
According to Deputy District Attorney Richard Hinchcliff, Orlando Lopez, 23, who was recently arrested in connection with the shooting, was released from custody. “We did not have sufficient evidence at this time to charge him,” he said. “We charged Paul Braden and Kevin Stone. Braden is currently in custody on a no-bail hold and Stone has not been located and arrested yet.”
Braden is scheduled for a court appearance for entry of plea at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Lake County Superior Court Department 4 in Clearlake.
