CLEARLAKE — Murder suspect Orlando Lopez, 23, of Clearlake was taken back into custody Tuesday morning. Lopez is being held without bail at Lake County Jail, according to Lake County District Attorney Don Anderson.
Lopez was originally arrested on June 20 in connection with a shooting incident that occurred two days prior at a residence on Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake; a 4-year-old boy was killed in the incident while five others suffered gunshot wounds including the toddler”s mother, who remains hospitalized. However, Lopez was soon released from custody because, according to deputy district attorney Richard Hinchcliff, there was not enough evidence to charge him.
Clearlake Police Investigator T. Clements rearrested Lopez on Tuesday. “In light of information gathered through additional interviews, which led to the issuance of an arrest warrant, we were able to take Lopez back into custody,” Clearlake Interim Chief of Police Craig Clausen said. “He was arrested in Upper Lake without incident and booked into Lake County Jail.”
A second suspect, Paul Braden, 21, of Clearlake, who was also arrested on June 20, made a court appearance on Tuesday, entering pleas of not guilty to as many as, but not limited to, one count of murder and five counts of attempted murder.
Authorities continue to seek the whereabouts of a third suspect, identified as Kevin Stone, 29, of Clearlake. Stone is described as a white man, 6-feet 1-inch tall weighing approximately 165 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
