LAKEPORT — The Lakeport Police Department (LPD) is investigating two alleged burglaries reported within about three hours of each other on Friday morning.

The first incident occurred at a home on the 100 block of South Polk Street, according to LPD Sgt. Kevin Odom.

LPD officers, assisted by Lake County Sheriff”s Office deputies, responded to the home at approximately 5 a.m. Friday after the resident reported having caught and detained a burglary suspect, Odom said.

The suspect, 19-year-old Jaime Luis Mitchell, allegedly entered through the back door and was in the process of removing property when the resident discovered and physically detained him, Odom said.

Odom said Mitchell had prior burglary arrests. Mitchell was arrested and booked into the Lake County Jail Friday morning on a felony burglary charge and misdemeanor charges of possession of burglary tools and probation violation. A second burglary was reported just more than three hours later in the same area on the 100 block of South Starr Street.

During their investigation LPD officers located evidence linking Mitchell to the second burglary, LPD Police Chief Brad Rasmussen said. Mitchell was booked for an additional count of first-degree burglary Friday afternoon. Investigators think two men, believed to be Lake County residents, assisted Mitchell in the alleged burglaries, Rasmussen said.

Both incidents continue to be investigated. The LPD asks people with information contact investigators at 263-5491.
