CLEARLAKE — On Saturday at approximately 10:29 p.m. a Clearlake Police Detective (CPD) was waved down by a mother who said a stranger grabbed her infant.
CPD Detective Ryan Peterson was on patrol covering a shift for an officer who was off that day. Peterson was summoned by a woman on Pine Street near Olympic Drive.
It was reported that the alleged kidnapper was identified as Judy Pitts, 40, of Clearlake. The mother reported she did not know Pitts, who grabbed her 8-month-old child from her arms and ran into a nearby home. Family members of the child ran into the home and retrieved the child who was safely returned to her mother.
The baby”s mother and other witnesses pointed Pitts out to Peterson as she was exiting the house. Peterson arrested Pitts, who appeared to be intoxicated, on charges of kidnapping. Pitts was transported to the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility.
