LAKEPORT — The owners of The Game Shop in Lakeport believe their store offers more video game titles than any store in California, and now they”re challenging customers to prove them wrong.
Lance and Sarah Kraft said their store on North Main Street has a selection of 4,500 different video game titles for consoles throughout the history of gaming, from the Atari 2600 to the latest systems, like the Nintendo Wii.
For the past couple months, they”ve held an informal contest, offering $50 to anyone who comes into the shop with contact information for another store in the state with a larger selection.
Since the contest started, dozens of people have claimed to find a store with more titles, but the prize still remains up for grabs.
The shop owners have diligently called each store that may have a larger selection, “but we”re getting a lot of feedback from people that we are (larger),” Lance said.
The Krafts said there have been stores that have more games in stock — even one with 10,000? but every store they”ve called to this point hasn”t reported having more separate titles, which is the contest criterion.
Sarah said The Game Shop”s vast title variety developed from customers coming in and asking for a range of specific games. “This is how it started. We just went with what the public wanted,” she said.
The Krafts hope to one day have a shop that offers 20,000 titles, but in the meantime, they”re hoping their current stock would allow them to confidently print T-shirts proclaiming The Game Shop as “California”s largest video game store.”
The contest will continue for another few months. Participants need to come into the shop to claim the prize and must provide the name, city and preferably contact information of their entry store.
