An all-time attendance record was shattered last weekend at Lakeport Speedway with the attendance of many fans from all over.
During the two days of racing, there was plenty of action on the speedway for all. The Lake County Off-Road Extreme Asphalt Outlaws took the track on July 2 running two heat races, which placed them in the position for the Mains on July 3.
Charlie Collins jumped out to the lead never to look back, taking the main event win to start off the night.
The Coors Light Modifieds took the track with two heats also racing for positions in the main event on July 3. After the field was set for the 50-lap Coors Light Modified Main Event, the lineup saw David Lyndall jump out to the early lead but eventually another racer caused Lyndall to spin, coming out of turn two sending both cars to the rear.
After the restart Charlie Collins took the lead never to look back over the field. He concluded this 50-lap race by almost lapping the entire field of race cars. Collins collected $200 for winning two mains in a night. He was now setting his sites on taking speedway promoter David Furia”s $1,000 by winning the main event in the bomber division.
The Clover Hydro Jammers saw action both days with running a doubleheader weekend at Lakeport Speedway. The Pro Jammers saw Eddie Klein take the Lyndall Memorial Eagle home on July 3 and Jr. Jammer Driver Jackson Long take the Eagle home on July 3 as well after winning the main event on July 2. A rookie driver in the Taco Bell Bombers claimed the checkers on July 2 under the lights at Lakeport Speedway. Don Cox jumped to an early lead in the main event never to look back on the field for the remainder of the event.
The next day, it was a new race and a different story. With $1,000 on the line Charlie Collins was collected in an early spin that sent him to the back of the field. As Collins was making his way back up through the field, the two Rose brothers were putting on a show of their own in the front of the field. Roman Rose had the lead with younger brother Dylan Rose battling him hard on every lap.
Collins worked his way back to third but kept his distance in case the two Rose brothers crashed. The brothers made it to the finish with Dylan taking the win, followed by Roman. The last two laps the brothers had the huge crowd on its feet, leading right into the fireworks show.
