CLEARLAKE — A Clearlake man was arrested Monday following a two-vehicle traffic collision on Lakeshore Drive. Robert Millsap, 26, was booked into Lake County Jail on charges of felony DUI causing injury, felony hit-and-run and possession of a narcotic controlled substance.
Two women and a 12-year-old girl were injured in the collision.
According to Clearlake Police Sgt. T. Hobbs at approximately 4:30 p.m. Monday officers responded to the 14600 block of Lakeshore Drive to find a red 2003 Dodge Neon, which sustained major damage in the westbound lane of Lakeshore Drive. According to an employee at a nearby location, customers rushed from her store to help put out a fire that ignited in the Neon upon impact with the white 2003 Ford F350 involved in the collision.
Hobbs said the three occupants of the Neon sustained major injuries. Extrication efforts by Lake County Fire Protection District were required to free at least one of the passengers.
Hobbs said that officers located the second vehicle involved a short distance away from the collision scene near the entrance to Redbud Park. The vehicle suffered minor damage in the collision.
“Through the course of the investigation it was determined Millsap was the at-fault driver in the collision,” Hobbs said. “After the collision Millsap left the scene in his vehicle only to crash into a business a short distance away. It was also determined Millsap had been driving while under the influence of a controlled substance.”
The driver of the Neon, identified as a 42-year-old woman from Clearlake, sustained moderate injuries and was transported via ambulance to St. Helena Hospital Clearlake. The 51-year-old woman in her vehicle sustained major injuries and was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital via air ambulance. The 12-year-old girl also sustained major injuries and was flown to Oakland Children”s Hospital. Aerial transports were provided by REACH 6 and CALSTAR.
